KABUL: It is truly devastating to hear about the recent floods and their impact on communities.

As per the information, at least 31 people have lost their lives, 74 have been injured, and 41 others are still missing due to the flooding in the country during the past 72 hours. The floods have also caused significant damage to residences, livestock, and acres of land.

Specifically, Maidan Wardak province seems to be one of the hardest-hit areas, where at least 30 people died and 15 others were injured in the floods that occurred last Saturday night. The affected people are calling for support from the interim government and humanitarian organizations to provide them with shelter and basic needs, according to Afghan media.

The provincial governor, Bakhtiar Maaz, has assured that assistance in the form of food and shelter is being arranged for those affected by the floods. It is commendable to know that over the course of the current solar year, more than 80,000 affected families in various provinces have already received food and cash aid to help them cope with the disaster’s aftermath.

However, it is evident that more support and resources are urgently needed to address the immediate and long-term impacts of the floods on the affected communities. The situation calls for a coordinated effort from various government agencies, humanitarian organizations, and the local community to ensure that those affected receive the necessary aid and support to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
