GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident, a Muslim man lost his life, and two others sustained severe injuries after an enraged mob attacked them on suspicion of cattle theft in the Ahatguru area of Assam’s Morigaon district.

According to Hemanta Kumar Das, the Superintendent of Police in Morigaon district, the incident occurred when locals apprehended three individuals under the suspicion of cattle theft. The mob subjected them to brutal beatings before the police could intervene. Regrettably, the situation escalated further when the mob resorted to pelting stones at the police personnel who rushed to the scene upon receiving information about the incident, according to Kashmir Media Service.

Despite the police’s efforts to rescue the three victims, one of them, identified as Saddam Hussain, succumbed to his injuries before he could receive medical attention at a hospital. The condition of the other two individuals, identified as Billal Ali and Mizarul Haque, is currently stable, and they are undergoing treatment for their injuries.

The timely action of the police team allowed the rescue of the three victims, but we couldn’t save Saddam Hussain. Despite our best efforts, he was declared dead by the doctors at the hospital, shared Superintendent Hemanta Kumar Das.

In the aftermath of the tragic incident, authorities have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law to initiate a thorough investigation. However, no arrests have been made in connection with the mob attack at the time of reporting.

Additionally, some security personnel who sustained injuries while attempting to control the volatile situation have also received medical treatment at the hospital.
