NEW DELHI: In response to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government’s handling of law and order, AAP MP Raghav Chadha argued that the situation in the state had witnessed significant improvement since his party came to power.

Chadha stated, “I think that Rajnath Singh has received the wrong information about Punjab. In Punjab, the law and order situation has improved under the AAP-Bhagwant Mann government.” He further emphasized that the state’s law and order situation was considerably better compared to previous decades.

The AAP leader also drew attention to the violence in Manipur, a state ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chadha requested the Defence Minister to acknowledge the unrest and suffering in Manipur, pointing out that thousands of people had lost their lives and become homeless. He urged Rajnath Singh to take responsibility for the violence before highlighting issues in other states.

Chadha also highlighted the rising crime in the national capital, referring to recent killings in Delhi. He noted that law and order, as well as the police, fell under the jurisdiction of the central government in Delhi. Taking a dig at Rajnath Singh, he argued that daily incidents of murder, rape, and robbery were occurring in Delhi, with the crime graph on the rise.

Rajnath Singh had criticized the Punjab government for its failure to maintain law and order during his visit to Chandigarh on Saturday. However, Chadha countered by asserting that the law and order situation in Delhi and Manipur, which both fall under BJP jurisdiction, was in poor condition.

The BJP and AAP leaders have been engaged in a war of words regarding the alleged deterioration of law and order in Delhi, where the Delhi Police operates under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
