MOSCOW: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Russian President Vladimir Putin have discussed ways to de-escalate the conflict in the Gaza Strip as well as humanitarian aid, the Kremlin said on Friday. Putin held a telephone call with Mahmoud Abbas and discussed the current development in the Gaza Strip. According to the Kremlin, the two sides agreed that President Mahmoud Abbas would visit Moscow at a date to be agreed. The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that President Abbas stressed to President Putin the urgent need to stop the current Israeli aggression against the people of Palestine. The Palestinian President also reiterated the significance of the swift entry of humanitarian help, medical supplies, and fuel into the Gaza Strip to stop the displacement of Palestinian people.
President Abbas thanked President Putin for “Russia’s political support on the global stage and its humanitarian help to the Gaza, including the approval to send a field hospital.”

President Putin, for his part, also “reiterated Moscow’s support for the people of Palestine to achieve their freedom in their independent Palestinian state … with global legitimacy,” Wafa reported.
He stated that contacts are ongoing to ensure the entry of the Russian field hospital into the Strip soon.

Since October 7, the Israeli military has been waging a destructive war on the Gaza Strip, resulting so far in more than 20,057 deaths and over 53,320 injured, most of them women and children. This has caused huge damage to infrastructure and an unparalleled humanitarian disaster, according to Palestinian and global sources. Gaza health ministry said over 410 people have been killed in Israeli brutal bombardment over 48 hours, including 16 in an airstrike Friday on Gaza, Jabalia. Four members of same family, including a girl, killed in another attack on a civilian vehicle in Rafah in Gaza, the ministry maintained.
