LOS ANGELES: The cause of death for the renowned British actor Julian Sands, who went missing while hiking on a mountain in California, United States in January, has officially been ruled as “undetermined,” local authorities said on Monday.
Sands, who shot to fame as the romantic hero in the 1980s period drama “A Room with a View,” vanished on the ten tousand foot Mount San Antonio, known locally as Mount Baldy.
But it was not until June that human remains, later determined to be those of Sands, were discovered by hikers. Sands was 65.
San Bernardino County sheriff-coroner’s department’s spokesman said that the cause of death is undetermined due to the condition of the body and no other factors were also discovered during the investigation, AFP reported.
She added that this is common in cases of such types that the cause of death remains undetermined.
Actor’s varied career
Sands’ famous role was as plain-speaking George Emerson in “A Room with a View”. The film was the adaptation of EM Forster’s novel, and got Oscar in 1985.
In a long career, he appeared in movies as diverse as Frank Marshall’s spider-themed horror film “Arachnophobia” in 1990, David Cronenberg’s controversial movie “Naked Lunch” and the alcohol-soaked drama in 1995 , “Leaving Las Vegas”, directed by Mike Figgis.

After the big success of “A Room with a View”, Sands shifted to Los Angeles.
He tied the knoe with writer Evgenia Citkowitz in 1990. He left behind 3 children including a son with his previous wife, British journalist Sarah Sands.
