ADB Pledges $100 Million for Essential Facilities in Sindh Housing Initiative

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, on Friday met with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Hong Su Lee, ADB’s Urban Development Specialist, a statement said.

According to the press statement, the Chief Minister Sindh was accompanying with Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhar Alam, Secretary to Chief Minister Rahim Sheikh, Finance Secretary Kazim Jatoi, CEO of People’s Housing Khalid Sheikh, and other officials.

During the meeting, they discussed the reconstruction project to provide housing for flood victims in the province. He emphasized the rapid progress of the project, stating that the construction of 100,000 houses has already been completed out of a planned 2.1 million.

Expressing the need for additional funds to continue construction, the CM Sindh highlighted the Asian Development Bank’s estimated allocation of $400 million for the construction of an additional 2.5 million houses.

Furthermore, the CM Sindh stressed the importance of providing essential facilities such as drainage, drinking water, and solar energy to the housing units for flood victims. In response, the Asian Development Bank assured $100 million for the provision of facilities for the houses to be constructed. They also pledged to expedite paperwork for other necessary facilities within a month.

Murad Ali Shah reiterated his commitment to fulfilling promises made during the election campaign regarding housing construction. Additionally, he noted the willingness of donor agencies to collaborate with the Sindh government in providing housing for the underprivileged.
