SAO PAULO: Argentine President-elect Javier Milei’s adviser Diana Mondino held a meeting with Brazil’s foreign relations minister on Sunday and invited President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to inauguration.

She posted on her social media account that she was in Brasilia to meet Lula’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, sharing an image alongside him.

Later, Brazil’s foreign relations ministry also confirmed her trip and said Mondino was there to invite President Lula to the president-elect’s inauguration on December 10.

“The two sides also discussed aspects of the bilateral ties and the current phase of Mercosur-EU negotiations,” the ministry stated.

During his election campaign, far-right Milei recommended he would recoil at doing business with Brazil, his nation’s top trade partner, dubbing President Lula an “angry communist” and “socialist with a totalitarian aptitude”.

Milei’s adviser meeting with Vieira comes as Milei also softened his tone with Beijing, thanking Chinese leader Xi Jinping for a letter congratulating him. China is Argentina’s the 2nd largest trade partner.
