WASHINGTON: Afghan Taliban would not return any of the military equipment left behind by the US troops while exiting Afghanistan in 2021, according to Bloomberg.
Earlier, before his inauguration, Donald Trump said that future financial assistance to Afghanistan would be contingent upon the return of US military equipment by the Taliban, VOA reported.
According to media reports, Trump said, “If we’re going to pay billions of dollars a year, tell them we’re not going to give them the money unless they give back our military equipment.”
Billions of dollars
“They gave billions of billions of dollars to the Taliban. They gave our military equipment, a big chunk of it, to the enemy,” VOA cited Trump as saying. Donald Trump referred to the tumultuous and hasty withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in August 2021, ordered by President Joe Biden, VOA reported.
The US troops left Afghanistan after being deployed in the country for 20 years. The US army left weapons worth $7 billion and left the country, which was overtaken by the Afghan Taliban, according to media reports.
