KABUL, Afghanistan: The Afghanistan Cricket Board stated that Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Naveen Ul Haq faced delays in their annual contracts and had their franchise cricket permissions revoked due to neglecting their “national responsibility.”
The players’ request to be released from central contracts and participate in international leagues highlighted the increasing allure of franchise cricket in the sport. By choosing not to sign their central contracts, the players prioritized personal interests over representing Afghanistan, a duty the ACB considers a national obligation. Consequently, the board decided to postpone their contracts and withhold the necessary no-objection certificates for playing abroad for the upcoming two years.

“The decision by the Afghanistan Cricket Board is made with a focus on national priorities, aligned with the ACB’s core values and principles,” the said.
“It highlights the necessity for every player to maintain the ACB’s principles and prioritise the country’s interests above their personal ones.”
Mujeeb, the off-spinner currently playing for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League in Australia, was recently acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for $241,000. Additionally, fast bowlers Naveen and Farooqi have also secured contracts with IPL franchises.
