ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar hosted a luncheon meeting with a delegation of resident envoys representing African countries and select Asian nations today.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassadors of Sudan and Algeria, as well as the High Commissioners of Bangladesh, Mauritius, Brunei, Malaysia, and South Africa. The gathering also included the Charge d’Affaires of Ethiopia, Tunisia, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, Somalia, and Zimbabwe. The meeting was joined by the Foreign Minister, Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Foreign Secretary.
During the luncheon, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance Pakistan attaches to its relations with Africa. He expressed the country’s eagerness to strengthen ties with African nations on both bilateral and regional fronts.
While recognizing the longstanding positive political relations between Pakistan and Africa, the Prime Minister underscored the need to further develop trade and economic connections, emphasizing their untapped potential. He informed the attendees about the ongoing 4th Pakistan-Africa Trade Conference in Cairo, Egypt, where Pakistan is represented by a significant business delegation led by the Commerce Minister.
Additionally, the Prime Minister conveyed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s historic connections with Southeast Asian countries, particularly Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. He expressed Pakistan’s keen interest in expanding bilateral trade relationships with these key nations and sought their support in enhancing Pakistan’s engagement with ASEAN.
Touching upon the ongoing situation in Gaza, the Prime Minister highlighted the imperative for dialogue among nations and collective efforts to cease violence, aiming for lasting peace in Palestine.
Commending the diplomatic envoys for their efforts in fostering stronger ties with Pakistan and their respective countries, the Prime Minister praised their dedication. In response, the diplomats expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s time and affirmed their commitment to working closely with Pakistan to strengthen bilateral relations.
