WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden, under intense scrutiny over his health fitness to serve, mistakenly referred to his Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday as Vice President “Trump.”

The US President Biden, asked whether Harris could beat Trump if he decided not to run again, said: “I would not have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president if I did not think she was not qualified to be president.

However, he said that he is the “most qualified” person to take on Donald Trump in November’s presidential polls as he faced growing calls from within his political party to step down.

Earlier, Biden accidentally introduces Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky as Russia’s President Vladimir Putin at a NATO ceremony before correcting himself.

“Now I want to hand it over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination. Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin,” President Joe Biden said.

However, he quickly corrected himself, saying, “I’m so focused on beating Putin, we’ve got to worry regarding it.”

Fellow leaders at the NATO summit have fielded questions regarding President Biden, and their answers have largely been supportive.  French President Emmanuel Macron stated that they all slip up sometimes, adding “It’s happened to me and it could happen again tomorrow. I would ask for your tolerance.”

According to media reports, more than a dozen Democrats lawmakers have appealed publicly to Biden to withdraw from the race against Donlad Trump.
