ISLAMABAD: Ahad Cheema has been removed from his office as Advisor to the prime minister, as confirmed by a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

The removal was sanctioned by President Arif Alvi after receiving approval on the caretaker prime minister’s recommendation.

The process initiated following the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) directive, where the caretaker prime minister submitted a summary for Ahad Cheema’s removal. President Alvi granted approval under Article 48-1, aligning with the ECP’s call for fair and transparent elections.

The Election Commission, expressing concerns over potential influence on the general elections, ordered the immediate removal of Ahad Cheema from the post of advisor. Emphasizing that Cheema had been part of the previous cabinet, the ECP deemed his presence as potentially affecting the impartiality of the electoral process.

In response to a petition filed by Azizuddin Kakakhel, urging the removal of biased ministers from the caretaker cabinet, the Election Commission issued notices to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haque Kakar, along with Fawad Hasan Fawad and Ahad Cheema.

This development underlines the Election Commission’s commitment to ensuring an election environment free from any potential influence, upholding the principles of fairness and transparency. As the caretaker government responds to the ECP’s directives, the nation awaits the appointment of a replacement for Ahad Cheema in the advisory role.
