Ahmad Faraz Being Remembered on Birth Anniversary

LAHORE: The 93rd birth anniversary of prominent poet Ahmad Faraz is being observed today (Friday). He was born on January 12, 1931, in Kohat as Syed Ahmad Shah, he initially penned his poetry under the name Ahmad Shah Kohati. However, under the guidance of the legendary Faiz Ahmed Faiz, he later adopted the name Ahmad Faraz.

During his graduation, he published his first poetry collection, “Tanha Tanha,” contributing vivid hues to the Urdu language through his poetic expressions. Recognized as one of the greatest Urdu poets of his time, Ahmad Faraz’s poetry is lauded for its elegance and simplicity.

Known for his candid and courageous approach, Faraz fearlessly used his pen to highlight the issues of society.  In acknowledgement of his literary services to the Urdu language, Ahmad Faraz received the Adam Jee Literary Award, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and Hilal-e-Imtiaz from the government of Pakistan. He passed away on August 25, 2008, with his final resting place in Islamabad.
