Air Chief Felicitates Hamza Khan for Winning World Junior Squash Championship

ISLAMABAD: Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu on Monday congratulated Hamza Khan for winning the 2023 World Junior Squash Championship in Melbourne, Australia.

According to a Pakistan Air Force news release, Hamza Khan, the young squash player, won the championship by defeating Egypt’s Mohamed Zakaria 3-1 in the decisive encounter. The young winner received congratulations from the Air Chief for returning the trophy to Pakistan after a 37-year gap.

He added that this victory brought back memories of Jan Sher Khan’s victory at the World Squash Championship in 1986 and described it as a return to Pakistan’s former squash glory. The Chief of the Air Staff added that everyone in the country is proud of the talented player’s remarkable achievement, which raised the national flag in the squash world.

Air Chief Lauds PAF’s Contributions in Promoting Squash

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force, who also serves as the president of the Pakistan Squash Federation, noted that PAF had made a significant contribution to the promotion of squash in Pakistan and reaffirmed his commitment that PAF and PSF would continue to support young talent to bring more victories for the country.

The Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Squash Federation, Air Vice Marshal Kazim Hammad, and the Contingent Manager, Air Commodore (Retired) Aftab Sadiq Qureshi, were also praised for their unwavering dedication to providing top-notch instruction and assisting talented young people to succeed in the sport of squash.

The Air Chief was grateful for the coaching staff’s efforts in providing the young players with facilities for training and coaching that were of a high international standard. He also praised the management of the PSF for its concerted attempts to restore squash’s former glory.
