MIRPUR: Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, on Saturday commended Pakistan’s Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar for raising the Kashmir issue in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
The AJK Prime Minister stated that Prime Minister Kakar’s significant speech perfectly represented the desires of the Kashmiri people.
In a statement, the AJK PM praised Pakistan’s unwavering support for the just cause of the Kashmiris, emphasizing that Pakistan had not only backed the legitimate struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination but had also effectively advocated for the Kashmiri cause on various international platforms.
Referring to the Kashmir issue as one of the oldest unresolved matters on the UN agenda, the AJK Premier emphasized that it was high time for the global community, particularly the United Nations, to move beyond mere political rhetoric and play a decisive role in peacefully resolving the long-standing dispute in accordance with UNSC resolutions.
Right to Self-Determination for Kashmir
He urged the United Nations to positively respond to Pakistan’s call for a referendum in Kashmir and the implementation of UN resolutions on the matter. The AJK PM noted that India’s continual refusal to adhere to the UN resolutions had been the most significant obstacle to peace in the region.
The AJK PM pointed out that India had attempted to alter the disputed status of the Kashmir issue by revoking Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, but had failed in its endeavor. He highlighted that the people of Occupied Kashmir had persistently resisted India’s unlawful occupation.
Furthermore, he underscored that the Kashmiri people had consistently rejected India’s illegal control over the region and demanded the implementation of UNSC resolutions guaranteeing their right to self-determination.
The AJK PM concurred with the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s assertion that lasting peace in South Asia was inherently tied to the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
