MIRPUR: President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has called on Sweden and Scandinavian nations to use their political and diplomatic influence to help resolve the long-standing Kashmir dispute, aiming to foster lasting peace in South Asia.

He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Kashmir Council Sweden and the Stability Pakistan Overseas Forum, which included Swedish Member of Parliament Anders Tiger, at the Jammu Kashmir House in the federal capital on Sunday.

The delegation was led by Sheikh Saeed, Chairman of the Kashmir Council Sweden, and included notable members such as Sardar Taimur Aziz Kashmiri, Sheikh Usman Tahir, Raja Bilal Mustafa, Ishtiaq Khan, Hafiz Sajjad Ahmed, Sikander Sheikh, Sardar Mushtaq, and Sardar Zulfikar Roshan.

During the meeting, President Chaudhry emphasized that the key to peace in South Asia lies in resolving the Kashmir issue.

“It is crucial for the international community to actively pressure India to halt ongoing atrocities in the disputed territory to pave the way for a peaceful resolution,” he stated, expressing concern over the continuous killings of innocent civilians, particularly the youth, by Indian occupation forces.

He also highlighted the recent killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, noting that evidence of Indian secret agents’ involvement presented by the Canadian government has shown that the Modi government is using terrorism as a political tool.

Stressing that the right to self-determination is an inalienable right of the people of Kashmir, President Chaudhry urged the global community to move away from its indifferent stance and take meaningful action to grant Kashmiris their promised rights.

Member of Parliament Anders Tiger assured President Chaudhry that he would advocate for the Kashmir issue in Sweden and the broader Western world.
