SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged the residents of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir to observe August 5 as “Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir” to mark the fifth anniversary of the revocation of Article 370.

On August 5, 2019, the Indian government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, abrogated Article 370, which granted special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir, and imposed a strict military curfew. This move led to extensive human rights abuses, including the detention of political leaders and activists in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

In a statement released today, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rahid Minhas called for the reversal of the actions taken on August 5, 2019. He demanded the release of all political prisoners, an end to human rights violations by Indian forces in the occupied territory, and a resolution to the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

Illegally detained APHC leader Molvi Bashir Ahmed Irfani, speaking from prison, described August 5 as a “painful and tragic day” in Kashmir’s history.

In response, Indian forces have continued their operations in the region, conducting extensive searches in Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, and Doda districts. These operations, involving both the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force, have resulted in numerous arrests.
