ISLAMABAD: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ senior allies worry over fears that the new far-right and ultranationalist Israeli coalition headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to dismantle the Palestinian Authority (PA). Following the 1993 Oslo peace accords, the PA was set up.

Ahmad Majdalani, who is the Palestinian minister of social development, maintained that the current Israeli government aims to dismantle the authority. Majdalani elaborated that it is the PA that administers a semblance of self-rule in West Bank and reminded all and sundry that the PA is the institutional building block of the future state of Palestine.

Israeli govt plans to create new reality in West Bank

Referring to Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, who head anti-Arab and ultranationalist parties, Majdalani said that as “part of their ideology” these two politicians and PM Netanyahu aim to destroy the ideology.

The Palestinian social development minister maintained that Israel’s current ruling coalition wants to “create” a “new reality” in West Bank. In order to achieve this their plan is to forge localized municipal bodies.

The Netanyahu coalition has revealed plans to expand Israeli settlements tremendously and in the end annex the occupied West Bank. Palestinians have long wished to build a state in the area of land.

Last week, Israel last week imposed financial curbs on the PA after the body led a successful UN drive to petition the International Court of Justice to judge whether Israel’s extended control of the West Bank qualifies as a de facto annexation.
