ISLAMABAD: Ambassador Jauhar Saleem has been appointed as the President of the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), marking a significant addition to his illustrious diplomatic career. With extensive experience in the Pakistan Foreign Service, Ambassador Saleem brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.

Having served at the highest echelons of the Pakistan Foreign Service, Ambassador Saleem has held esteemed positions including Foreign Secretary, Special Secretary, Additional Foreign Secretary, Head of the Foreign Service Academy, and Director General for European Affairs. His diplomatic assignments have taken him to various countries, where he served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany, Italy, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Bahrain, as well as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to key international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the World Food Program (WFP).

Ambassador Saleem’s leadership extends beyond diplomatic circles, as evidenced by his tenure as the elected President of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) from 2020 to 2022. His academic journey includes studies in English Literature, Government, International Relations, and International Economics at esteemed institutions such as Government College University, University of Pennsylvania, and Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, he has pursued further academic endeavors with a fellowship at Georgetown University and as a visiting faculty member at prestigious universities in Europe and America.

Throughout his career, Ambassador Saleem has actively contributed to print and electronic media as an international relations expert, providing valuable insights into global affairs. In assuming the role of President at the Institute of Regional Studies, Ambassador Saleem succeeds Ambassador Nadeem Riyaz, further solidifying his commitment to fostering regional understanding and cooperation through scholarly research and dialogue.
