WASHINGTON: American Airlines confirmed Friday that it had resumed operations after problems linked with a major worldwide IT outage.

In a statement via social media, it said, “Earlier this morning, a technical problem with a vendor impacted multiple carriers, including American. As of 5:00 a.m., we have been able to safely re-establish our operations,”.

Earlier, the Federal Aviation Administration stated that major American air carriers including Delta, United and American Airlines grounded all flights early on Friday due to a communication problem,

According to a notice issued by FFA to airlines, “All flights regardless of destination” were grounded because of the “communication issues”.

According to AFP the UK’s largest rail franchise is also facing “widespread IT problems”.  “We are currently facing widespread IT problems across our entire network”, the four lines operated by Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) wrote on social media.

A large-scale outage wrought havoc on Information Technology systems across Australia on Friday, with the country’s national broadcaster, its major international airport, and a major telecommunications firm reporting issues.

Images posted online showed large lines forming at Sydney Airport, which told media some airline operations and even terminal services had been suffered. Some self-checkout terminals at one of Australia’s largest supermarket chains displayed error messages. Telecommunications company Telstra stated some of its systems had been disrupted.
