LAHORE: Renowned anchorperson Imran Riaz was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency in Lahore in the early hours of Thursday, according to Imran Riaz’ counsel, Mian Ali Ashfaq.
He said that his client was taken into custody from the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore by the cybercrime wing of the FIA. “The details of the case filed against Imran Riaz are not being disclosed,” he added. He further said that the “illegal arrest” will be challenged in a court of law.
A video shared by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s official Twitter account shows the journalist at Federal Investigation Agency’s cybercrime office.
Condemning the arrest of the journalist, secretary-general PTI Asad Umar said that while politicians and journalists were in jail, terrorists are walking freely in the country.
Imran Riaz was previously arrested in July
Riaz was previously arrested in July 2022 after several sedition cases were filed against him. He was later set free by the Lahore High Court on bail.
