PARIS: Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has been granted permission to legally drop her father’s surname and change her name to Shiloh Jolie.

Shiloh, who was born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt on May 27, 2006, officially filed the petition to remove the “Pitt” surname from her legal name on her 18th birthday in May. Following a brief delay due to an incomplete background check, the court has now granted her request.

The hearing, initially postponed, was rescheduled for August 19, 2024, after the necessary paperwork was completed, as confirmed by Shiloh’s lawyer, Peter Levine.

Levine explained the delay, stating, “Unfortunately, the court was unable to complete the background check ahead of today’s hearing, so the hearing was rescheduled for August 19.”

The name change decision is part of Shiloh’s broader journey towards personal independence. Shiloh’s parents, Angelina Jolie, 49, and Brad Pitt, 60, who divorced in 2016, have six children together.

Their other children include Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Pax, 20, Knox, 15, and Vivienne, 15. Shiloh, as their third-born child, has made a notable step towards defining her own identity apart from her famous family.

Although Brad Pitt was informed about Shiloh’s decision to drop his last name, it has reportedly been an emotional matter for him. A source close to the actor revealed to People magazine, “He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them.”
