NEW YORK: Anne Hathaway shared her thoughts on Margot Robbie taking on the role of Barbie in the movie, expressing admiration for the Australian actress and director Greta Gerwig.
In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hathaway admitted that the project was fortunate to have fallen into the hands of Robbie and Gerwig, stating that she could not have turned it into a “global phenomenon” as they did.
The 41-year-old actress’s comments follow the initial announcement in 2017 when Amy Schumer backed off, and Hathaway was revealed as the star for Sony’s Barbie movie. However, Robbie eventually took on the project with Warner Bros after Sony faced challenges in executing the film.

Referring to the 2023 blockbuster as the “best possible version,” Hathaway acknowledged that if she believed the version she was initially attached to could have achieved the same success, her feelings might be different.
