CANNES: Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays the lead in the “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”, was full of praise on Thursday for her stunt double in the action-packed blockbuster that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera.

The 28-year-old star, portraying the titular role in the fifth installment of George Miller’s iconic post-apocalyptic series, expressed admiration for her stunt double, Hayley Wright, emphasizing the collaborative and supportive environment during filming.

Taylor-Joy revealed her close bond with Wright, emphasizing their shared experiences on set. “Everything she did, I did too,” she remarked. “God I love these stunt people, they are so wonderful… and you know what? Best people on set, always!”

Producer Doug Mitchell highlighted the immense effort behind the film’s elaborate action sequences, which involved a staggering 264-member stunt department. He underscored the meticulous planning and safety protocols integral to executing such complex scenes, noting the dedication and professionalism of the team.

The movie, serving as a prequel to “Fury Road,” sees Taylor-Joy portraying a younger version of Charlize Theron’s character. Director George Miller hinted at the possibility of further exploration into the backstories of Furiosa and Max, suggesting potential for additional films.

While Taylor-Joy’s accolades centered on the stunt team, co-star Chris Hemsworth, who plays the antagonist Dementus, shared insights into his approach to the character. Embracing the villain’s flamboyant persona, Hemsworth aimed to infuse moments of vulnerability to add depth to the role.
