ISLAMABAD: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) has urged the United Nations and international human rights organizations to intervene in the unfair imprisonment of Hurriyat leaders and activists in Indian jails and Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This plea was expressed at a meeting in Islamabad, chaired by Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, the convener of APHC-AJK.

Participants at the meeting expressed deep concern over the ongoing situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, particularly highlighting the suffering of illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and workers who lack basic facilities such as medical treatment, leading to the emergence of fatal diseases among Kashmiri detainees.

During the gathering, leaders emphasized that the international community, especially the United Nations Secretary General, has seemingly forgotten the inalienable right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir. They accused the Modi government of treating the Kashmiri population, particularly Muslims, as if they were slaves. Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, addressing the attendees, underscored the negligible importance assigned to Kashmiri Muslims in the eyes of Indian rulers. He criticized New Delhi for disregarding international agreements and human rights standards, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Geneva Convention, and UN Human Rights Commission reports from 2018 and 2019 on Jammu and Kashmir.

As a gesture of solidarity, special prayers were offered during the meeting for the martyrs of the Kashmir liberation movement and the martyrs of Palestine. Notable leaders from APHC-AJK, including Syed Yusuf Naseem, Imtiaz Wani, Syed Ejaz Rahmani, Raja Khadim Hussain, Zahid Safi, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Mian Muzaffar, Syed Mushtaq Gilani, Gulshan Ahmed, and Nazir Ahmed, actively participated in the discussions. The gathering aimed to draw global attention to the human rights abuses and injustices faced by the people of Kashmir, urging international intervention to address the alarming situation.
