SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed deep concern over the international community’s silence regarding severe Indian state terrorism in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

In a statement issued in Srinagar on Saturday, an APHC spokesman highlighted the latest Human Rights Watch (HRW) report, deeming it a crucial revelation that should prompt the global community to hold India accountable for its harsh actions in the occupied territory.

The HRW’s World Report 2024 outlined India’s ongoing restrictions on free expression, peaceful assembly, and other rights in occupied Kashmir throughout 2023. It emphasized the arrests and raids on critics and human rights defenders, citing the cases of Kashmiri activists Khurram Parvez and Irfan Mehraj.

The APHC spokesman in Srinagar asserted that the Modi regime consistently infringes upon the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people and employs draconian laws to suppress political dissent in the occupied region. He stressed that New Delhi’s persistent denial of basic rights, including the right to self-determination, constitutes a violation of the UN charter and international laws.

Questioning India’s claim to be a democratic republic, the spokesman stated, “India must face pressure to halt the persecution of rights activists and voices of dissent in IIOJK. Modi and his associates should be held accountable for infringing on every right of the Kashmiris. The world must awaken to take notice of the plight of the oppressed Kashmiris,” he added.
