SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed deep concern over several massacres, including the 1993 Sopore massacre, committed by Indian troops in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service on Saturday, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) perpetrated the Sopore massacre on this day in 1993, resulting in the martyrdom of over 60 innocent Kashmiris and the destruction of more than 400 shops and residential houses in Sopore town.

Leaders and organizations affiliated with the APHC, such as Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Advocate Arshad Iqbal, Maulana Musaib Nadvi, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement, Kashmir Freedom Front, and Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement, in their statements condemned the ruthless actions of Indian occupation forces.

They highlighted the setting ablaze of the Apple town, the ruthless killing of innocent civilians, and the destruction of the economic fabric of the occupied territory.

 Inquiry into Sopore Massacre Demanded

Considering the sacrifices made by the Kashmiris as a priceless asset in their ongoing struggle for freedom, the leaders and organizations called for an impartial international investigation into the Sopore carnage and other similar massacres to hold the responsible Indian troops accountable.

Stressing the significant loss of lives in the just struggle for freedom from India’s illegal occupation since 1947, they said that the unresolved Kashmir dispute has been the primary cause of immense suffering for the people of Kashmir.

The leaders reiterated that settling the Kashmir dispute is essential for achieving lasting peace in South Asia.
