SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) on Sunday urged the global community to increase its efforts toward settling the longstanding Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations resolutions.

In a statement, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas said that ongoing Indian repression has turned Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) into a “living hell” for its residents.

Minhas highlighted the escalation of violence and oppression against unarmed Kashmiris, particularly following the 2019 revocation of Articles 370 and 35A, which had granted the region special autonomy.

The APHC’s appeal came amid reports of escalating Indian violence in the occupied region. On Friday, two Kashmiri youths were killed by Indian forces in Baramulla district during a cordon-and-search operation, Kashmir Media Service reported.

The APHC described the incident as a “fake encounter”. APHC officials condemned the incident as yet another example of India’s state-sponsored terrorism in the occupied region.

Indian forces have intensified operations in Srinagar, Bandipora, Kupwara, Islamabad, Kishtwar, and Doda district of IIOJK. The APHC described these operations as part of a “broader strategy” by Indian authorities to stifle political expression and suppress Kashmiri demands for self-determination.

Minhas detailed the use of military force, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and property confiscations as tactics employed to silence dissent.

A recent report released by Kashmir Media Service outlined the deteriorating human rights situation in IIOJK. The report detailed the BJP-led Indian government’s extensive use of advanced technology and military tactics to suppress dissent within the region.

According to the report, state-sanctioned violence, detentions, and property seizures have become widespread, creating a climate of fear among the Kashmiri population.
