NEW YORK: Apple is set to enhance the iPhone experience with its in-house artificial intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, initially scheduled for release with the iPhone 16 series. Instead, users can expect these advanced features to debut with the iOS 18.1 update, scheduled for October.

However, premium functionalities will be locked behind a paywall, potentially costing $20 per month, though this is anticipated to be implemented at least three years from now.

At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, Apple unveiled the initial capabilities of Apple Intelligence, which include a revamped version of Siri, a feature called Genmoji, and Image Playground.

These innovations mark a significant advancement in Apple’s AI strategy, operating primarily on-device to enhance user privacy and experience.

Mark Gurman, a prominent technology journalist, reported that while the current iteration of Apple Intelligence will be available in the iOS 18.1 update, the most advanced features will not be monetized until a few years later.

Gurman predicts that users might have to wait at least three years before they encounter any premium charges for these advanced AI capabilities.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are currently supporting the beta phase of iOS 18.1, allowing users to access a subset of Apple Intelligence features. It is speculated that the upcoming iPhone SE, anticipated for early 2025, will also include support for these features, potentially resembling the design of the iPhone 16 series.
