LONDON: Apple’s latest beta version of iOS 17 has sparked controversy among users as it relocates the End Call button to the top-left corner of the screen, a departure from its long-standing central position.

The unexpected change has left users struggling to navigate the new layout, inadvertently disconnecting calls or fumbling to locate the button. The shift has led to frustration and annoyance, particularly for left-handed phone users.

The modified layout has also prompted comparisons between Apple’s iOS and Android’s interface design. Android devices have traditionally featured the End Call button in the top-left corner, and critics argue that the change makes iOS 17 resemble its competitor’s design aesthetics.

Apple May Reconsider End Call Button Placement

Industry insiders speculate that Apple might reconsider the button’s placement based on user feedback before the full release of iOS 17 later this year. The tech giant’s responsiveness to beta testers’ input will likely play a role in shaping the final design.

For now, users unhappy with the new End Call button position have a workaround. By navigating to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Call Button > Position, they can revert to the previous, centrally located button. However, this solution may only be temporary, as Apple could potentially eliminate this option in the official release of iOS 17.
