Appointment Process of Army Chief and CJCSC has Begun: Defense Minister

ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Monday that the selection process for the appointment of a new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) has begun.

Taking on Twitter, Khawaja Asif said, “By the will of God, the appointments will be made immediately as per the constitutional requirements. The process of appointing top officials in Pakistan Army has started today.”

Army Chief Appointment Date

Following a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, the Senior Defense Minister said that, the selection process for the appointment of Army Chief would be completed by November 25 and that the summary regarding the appointment of COAS would be moved within a couple of days.

“There is no impasse regarding the appointment of a new Army Chief. Once we receive the summary, then we will discuss the names of candidates, which are likely to be five or six senior-most officers from Pakistan Army,” Khawaja Asif added.

According to the Defense Minister, there is no pressure on the government regarding the appointment of the COAS. The Pakistan Muslim League-Noon (PML-N) led coalition government is consulting with all its government allies regarding the meeting to select this coveted position.

Khawaja Asif also clarified that the Prime Minister’s Office has not to received the summary regarding the appointment of the Army Chief.
