Arab-European Ministerial Meeting Held in Brussels to Address Gaza Conflict

BRUSSELS: The Ministerial Committee of the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Gaza developments along with foreign ministers and representatives from European nations has convened in Brussels on Sunday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.

The meeting addressed the need to end the Gaza war and take necessary steps toward implementing a two-state solution.

Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, co-chaired the meeting with his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide, in cooperation with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell. The meeting follows the last one held in Riyadh for the committee on April 29.

Ministers and representatives from Austria, Algeria, Belgium, Bahrain, Denmark, Germany, Egypt, Ireland, Jordan, Indonesia, Latvia, Portugal, Romania, Qatar, Slovakia, Spain, Slovenia, Palestine, Switzerland, Sweden, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) attended the meeting.

The meeting expressed its support for efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire, ending the war in the Gaza Strip and releasing detainees and hostages. It also stressed the importance of addressing all illegal actions and violations in the territory of Palestine, including control over the Rafah crossing, as well the catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

The participants discussed concrete steps toward the establishment of a Palestinian state within the framework of the two-state solution, underscoring the need for a political path that supports a viable resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The meeting highlighted the significance of international recognition of the State of Palestine and the adoption of a comprehensive policy that ensures an irreversible path toward implementing the two-state solution under international law and principles.

This includes compliance to United Nations Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, along with other relevant programs aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace that protect the rights of the Palestinian people and ensures regional security.

The participants added that such achievements will pave the way for normal ties between countries in the region and ensure regional stability, peace, security and cooperation.
