RIYADH: The Arab Group at the United Nations has supported Algeria’s draft resolution submitted to the UN Security Council seeking an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Arab media reported on early Tuesday.
The group in a statement said that it fully backs the draft resolution submitted by Algeria and call upon all members of the Security Council to vote for it.
It emphasized that the draft resolution is in line with the priorities of the group and the broader global community, which demands a ceasefire, determining the necessary scope for delivering humanitarian assistance, and opposing forced displacement of the people of Palestine.
The statement further added that the humanitarian situation is worsening due to embargos imposed by Israel, despite Resolutions 2712 and 2720, as well as measures by the Egyptian authorities to facilitate the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.
The group stressed that the Security Council must take immediate action according to the calls from the international community to implement a ceasefire in Gaza.
Israel bombardment in Gaza Strip has killed over 29,000 and caused mass destruction and shortages of necessities.
According to the United Nations, the Israeli war on Gaza has forced 85 percent of the enclave’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of clean water, food, and medicine, while 60 percent of the Gaza’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
