CAIRO: The Arab League has strongly condemned the Israeli army for what it deems as “war crimes” committed against the people of Jenin, a city in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. The League’s general secretariat denounced the excessive use of military force by Israeli forces and criticized the use of aviation against unarmed civilians in cities, villages, and camps. It also expressed concern over attacks and terrorism by Israeli settlers under the protection of the army.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Arab League held Israel fully responsible for the aggression and labeled it as war crimes and violations of international laws and resolutions. The League emphasized that these actions undermine efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and warned about the dangerous repercussions on security and stability in Palestine and the surrounding areas.

Arab League Calls for UN Security Council’s Intervention

The Arab League called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take immediate action to halt Israel’s aggression and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, took to Twitter to condemn the bombing of cities and camps, describing it as collective punishment and revenge that will only further escalate the situation. He urged peace advocates worldwide to intervene and put a stop to these “sinister and criminal” acts.

According to reports, over 1,000 soldiers and numerous drones were involved in the military operation in Jenin on Monday. Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the assault, accusing Israel of disregarding international law and its obligations as the occupying power. Egypt expressed concern about the escalating tensions and the increasing suffering of the Palestinian people, calling on international actors and influencers to intervene and put an end to the violations.

Since the dawn of the military operation, eight Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives. The situation remains tense, and the international community is being urged to take swift action to address the escalating crisis
