MUNICH: Hollywood action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger was briefly detained at Germany’s Munich airport on Wednesday for failing to declare a luxury watch, a customs spokesman told media.
Spokesman Thomas Meister said the former governor of California, 76, was held in the customs area on Wednesday afternoon after arriving from the United States.
Austrian-born actor was later allowed to continue his journey but without watch due to legal issues.
Meister added criminal proceedings were launched against the “Terminator” star and former bodybuilding icon for evasion of tax.

According to Meister tax should have been paid on the watch as Schwarzenegger wanted to sell it in the European Union.
The luxury timepiece was expected to be auctioned at a fundraising dinner for Schwarzenegger’s climate initiative in Kitzbuehel, Austria on Thursday. Items typically auctioned at such dinners include signed memorabilia and works of art and.
The bespoke watch was made specially for Arnold Schwarzenegger by luxury Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet.
