ISLAMABAD: The cricketing world is abuzz as the eagerly awaited 16th edition of the Asia Cup cricket tournament is set to commence tomorrow, featuring an interesting encounter between Pakistan and Nepal. The action-packed tournament is slated to take place from August 30 to September 17 and will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The opening match will see Pakistan take on Nepal in what promises to be a riveting spectacle on Wednesday. A high-voltage clash between arch-rivals Pakistan and India is set to be played in Kandy on September 2.

As anticipation mounts, cricket enthusiasts are eager to witness the battle among the six participating teams, divided into two groups. Group A comprises Pakistan, India, and Nepal, while Group B features defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

The tournament’s format will see the top two teams from each group progress to the final four, leading to the ultimate showdown between these top contenders on September 17 in Colombo.

Notably, Pakistan and India, perennial cricketing rivals, are expected to cross paths again on September 10 during the top-four stage, likely adding another enthralling chapter to their storied rivalry.

Last year’s competition witnessed India triumphing over Pakistan in the group stage, only for the Shaheens to outshine the Indian warriors in the subsequent top-four stage gameplay.

Reflecting on the recent past, Sri Lanka emerged as the victors of the Asia Cup 2022, securing the title by triumphing over Pakistan with a 23-run lead.

For Pakistan, the Asia Cup holds significant historical value, as the team has secured the title twice and finished as runner-up on three occasions.
