COLOMBO: Due to persistent rain during the Pakistan-India match in Colombo, the play was called off on Sunday but will continue tomorrow since a reserve day has been set aside for the high-voltage contest.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first against India in the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four match. When the play was stopped due to rain, India were 147/2 in 24.1 overs.

At one stage, it seemed that a 34-over play would be possible, but rain once again returned to dash the hopes of cricket fans. According to the playing conditions, the match will continue from this point tomorrow with no overs lost.

Pakistan Field Unchanged Team, India Make Two Changes

Pakistan have fielded an unchanged playing team for this high-voltage game. Meanwhile, India have made two changes, one being forced after Shreyas Iyer suffered with a spasm in the back moments before the toss, to be replaced by KL Rahul. Jasprit Bumrah has also replaced Mohammad Shami in India’s team.

After beating Bangladesh by 7 wickets in their first Super 4 match, Pakistan is looking forward to continuing their excellent form in the Asia Cup. The Group stage match between Pakistan and India on 2 September was washed out in Pallekele.

The group stage match between India and Pakistan on September 2 was abandoned due to rain in Pallekele. This match holds immense significance, as even a single loss in the Super 4s can push a team into “must-win territory.” With in-form Sri Lanka set to face both India and Pakistan next week, the two points at stake today are in high demand. There’s also a slim possibility that this fixture might be the last India vs. Pakistan encounter in the 2023 Asia Cup, as Sri Lanka emerges as a strong contender for the finals. History reminds us that India and Pakistan have never faced off in an Asia Cup final.
