ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday extended the interim bails of Asad Umar and several other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in the judicial complex riot case.

During the hearing, Judge Raja Jawwad Abbas Hassan remarked that the ATC cannot announce a verdict until the Islamabad High Court (IHC) gives its decision on the case.

The judge added that hearings on a matter cannot be held in sessions courts if it is being heard in the IHC. At this point, the investigating officer said PTI leaders have not yet been made part of the probe.

The court also accepted PTI leader Shibli Faraz’s plea for exemption from appearance in today’s hearing due to coronavirus. On March 18, intense clashes between PTI workers and the authorities erupted on Saturday as the PTI chairman Imran Khan reached the G-11 Judicial Complex accompanied by around 4,000 supporters to appear before a district and sessions court in the Toshakhana case.

Asad Umar, others were booked under 7-ATA

Hours after the clashes took place, the ex-premier and other PTI leaders as well as activists were booked under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at Ramna police station in the federal capital.
