DUBAI, UAE: A vessel was struck by an “unknown projectile” in the Red Sea, adding to the rising tensions in the region after months of Houthi-led attacks. The incident occurred 70 nautical miles southwest of Hodeida, a port held by Houthi forces.
The British maritime agency UKMTO confirmed that the ship sustained damage but no fires or casualties were reported. The crew remains safe, although two more explosions were detected nearby.
This attack is part of a series of Houthi actions in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, reportedly in support of Palestinians during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
These attacks have significantly disrupted key trade routes, prompting retaliatory strikes by the United States and Britain against Houthi targets in Yemen, raising the stakes in an already volatile region. Ships transiting the area are advised to exercise caution amid growing concerns over security and the potential for further incidents.
