ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has claimed that perpetrators of audio leaks had been identified who were allegedly involved in tapping telephonic conversations at the Prime Minister’s House rather than bugging it.
Talking to Geo News, Sanaullah said that “under the directives of the prime minister and the National Security Council, an investigation into the audio leaks is under way. The results of the probe will be presented to the premier, who will decide to what extent its findings could be shared and made public.”
Earlier, the National Security Council (NSC) had formed a high-level committee headed by the interior minister to look into the audio leaks, which have put the cyber security of the PM’s House at stake, also raising questions about the possible involvement of hostile agencies in the cyber-attack.
The federal cabinet had also backed the NSC’s decision to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the audio leaks, which has laid bare the poor cyber security arrangements at the most sensitive public office.
The interior minister also said that small devices are planted on the premises of the PM House to record telephonic conversations.
Sanaullah also indicated that the findings of the investigation could be shared with courts during in-camera sessions.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman and former minister Imran Khan announced to approach the court over the audio leaks, accusing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government of being involved in making such audio public.
