DUBAI: Following their commanding eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in Sydney, Australia has claimed the top spot on the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table. The win propelled Australia to 56.25% points from eight Tests.

In a series where Pakistan suffered a 3-0 defeat, Australia’s performance has elevated them to the forefront, showcasing their dominance in Test cricket. The Australian team, currently the reigning World Test Champions, demonstrated resilience and skill in both the Melbourne and Sydney Tests against Pakistan.

India, initially leading the points table after a seven-wicket triumph over South Africa in Cape Town, now stands at second place with 54.16% points from four Tests. South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh share the joint-third spot, each with 50% points from their respective two games.

The recent Boxing Day and New Year’s Tests witnessed significant shifts in the standings. South Africa claimed victory in Centurion against India, with Dean Elgar leading the way in his farewell series. However, India swiftly rebounded in Cape Town, delivering a compelling performance and setting the stage for an intriguing championship.

Australia’s upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies provides an opportunity for them to further solidify their position in the championship. Meanwhile, India is set to face England in a five-Test home series starting on January 25 in Hyderabad.

The bottom three spots in the points table are currently occupied by West Indies (16.67%), England (15%), and Sri Lanka (0%). England, despite registering two wins, two losses, and one draw in the Ashes, faces a 19-point penalty for slow over-rate.
