SYDNEY: A large-scale outage wrought havoc on Information Technology systems across Australia on Friday, with the country’s national broadcaster, its major international airport, and a major telecommunications firm reporting issues.
Australia’s National Cyber Security Coordinator confirmed that the “large-scale technical outage” was caused by a problem with a “third-party software platform”.
National broadcaster ABC also reported that its systems had been crippled by a “major” bug.
Images posted online showed large lines forming at Sydney Airport, which told media some airline operations and even terminal services had been suffered. Some self-checkout terminals at one of Australia’s largest supermarket chains displayed error messages. Telecommunications company Telstra stated some of its systems had been disrupted.
