Author, Playwright Fatima Surrayya Bajia Remembered

ISLAMABAD: The nation observed the death anniversary of the esteemed TV playwright and Urdu novelist, Fatima Surayya Bajia, on Saturday, commemorating her indelible contributions to Pakistani television and literature.

Born on September 1, 1930, in Karnatak, India, Fatima Surayya Bajia migrated to Pakistan with her family shortly after partition, where she embarked on a remarkable literary journey that would engrave her name in the annals of Urdu literature.

Renowned for her unparalleled storytelling skill, the veteran writer garnered numerous awards throughout her career, including the prestigious Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz awards, in recognition of her profound impact on Pakistani culture and literature.

Among her notable works are timeless plays such as “Shama,” “Afshan,” “Aroosa,” “Ana,” and “Tasveer.”

Tragically, Fatima Surayya Bajia succumbed to throat cancer on February 10, 2016, in Karachi, leaving behind a void in the literary world that remains deeply felt to this day. However, her enduring influence continues to motivate aspiring writers and artists, ensuring that her contributions to Pakistani culture endure through the ages. —APP
