UNITED NATIONS: Azerbaijan assured the United Nations on Saturday that it is committed to ensuring equal treatment for ethnic Armenians hailing from the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh territory, which was swiftly recaptured by Baku after decades of separatist control.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated, “I wish to reiterate that Azerbaijan is determined to reintegrate ethnic Armenian residents of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as equal citizens.” He emphasized that Azerbaijan’s constitution, national legislation, and international commitments provide a solid foundation for this endeavor.

Armenian Separatists Surrender to Azerbaijan
On Tuesday, Azerbaijan executed a rapid operation to regain control over the mountainous territory. On Friday, ethnic Armenian separatists agreed to surrender their weapons in an agreement mediated by Moscow. The ceasefire, if maintained, could potentially mark the end of a conflict between regional rivals Armenia and Azerbaijan, which has intermittently flared up over the three decades since the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Bayramov expressed the belief that “there is a historic opportunity for both Azerbaijan and Armenia to establish good neighborly relations and coexist side by side in peace.” Armenia, predominantly a Christian nation, has accused mainly Muslim Azerbaijan of pursuing a policy of ethnic cleansing.
