ISLAMABAD: Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev, was given a guard of honour as he arrived at the PM House in Islamabad on Thursday to meet Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, along with his high-powered delegation.

The Azerbaijan President landed in Islamabad earlier in the afternoon for a two-day official visit accompanied by a delegation comprising ministers and businessmen.

Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed the visiting dignitary on his arrival at the venue of the formal welcome ceremony.

The smartly turned-out contingents of the armed forces presented a guard of honour to the President.

During his stay in Islamabad, President Ilham Aliyev will hold meetings with Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Pakistan and Azerbaijan will engage in wide-ranging talks on areas of mutual interest to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

During the last meeting between the Azerbaijan President, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said they valued deep-rooted cultural, historical and religious relations with Azerbaijan.

He had reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to working together to elevate the tripartite cooperation into a “strong multifaceted partnership” across the sectors of energy, economy, culture, tourism, education and technology.
