SHUSHA, Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on Sunday proposed the establishment of a joint media working group with Pakistan aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and countering misinformation.

Addressing the media at the opening ceremony of the ‘2nd Shusha Global Media Forum’ at Shusha, Azerbaijan, President Aliyev appreciated Pakistan’s media for its supportive stance, describing it as “brotherly” and “friendly”. A joint media working group aims to leverage access to international media outlets, enhancing the reputation and perception of both nations.

President Aliyev expressed gratitude towards Pakistan’s media for its consistent support, describing the relationship as “brotherly” and “friendly.” He highlighted the need for collaborative efforts to promote accurate narratives and combat misleading information through international media platforms.

The President’s remarks follow a successful state visit to Pakistan, where he engaged in high-level discussions resulting in the signing of 17 agreements. These agreements primarily focused on expanding investment opportunities, enhancing bilateral trade, and fostering cooperation in the defence industry.

During his address at the media forum, President Aliyev also addressed preparations for the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), scheduled to take place in Baku in November. He underscored Azerbaijan’s commitment to combating climate change and highlighted sustainable approaches in the restoration and reconstruction efforts in the recently liberated territories.

The 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum features a series of panel sessions covering critical topics such as the impact of disinformation, policies to build resilient societies, the role of artificial intelligence in media, and promoting media literacy. The forum brings together over 150 foreign guests from approximately 50 countries, including representatives from 82 media entities and three international organizations.

The first Shusha Global Media Forum, held in July 2023 under the theme “New Media in the Era of the 4th Industrial Revolution,” set the stage for ongoing discussions on leveraging media in advancing global dialogue and cooperation.
