Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev Sweeps Election

BAKU: Azerbaijan’s President Aliyev secured 93 percent votes in early presidential election on Wednesday, according to exit polls.

The US-based Oracle Advisory Group’s representative George Brinbaum made the revelation at a news briefing in the capital Baku after voting ended at 7 p.m. local time (1500GMT).

Aliyev’s closest competitor, an independent candidate Zahid Oruj, received only 1.8 percent of votes.

Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission announced that 4.97 million people took part in the election, making the turnout to 76.73 percent.

According to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Mazahir Panahov, Zahid Oruj got 2.2 percent of votes, Razi Nurullayev 0.79 percent, Fazil Mustafa 1.99 percent, Elshad Musayev 0.66 percent, Gudrat Hasanguliyev 1.78 percent, and Fuad Aliyev 0.48 percent.

There were 6,478,623 registered voters in the country who cast their votes across 6,537 polling stations throughout the country.

For the first time in the history of independent Azerbaijan, the upcoming election will be held across the country, including the lands liberated from Armenian occupation in 2020. 26 polling stations have been established in the liberated territories.

A total of 90,372 observers monitored the election, with 790 of them representing 72 international organizations from 89 states.

49 polling stations were established in the embassies and consulates of 37 countries for Azerbaijani citizens residing abroad.

President of Pakistan congratulates President Aliyev

President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has congratulated President Aliyev on his decisive victory in Azerbaijan’s Presidential elections.

“Your leadership continues to inspire progress and stability. Pakistan looks forward to strengthening our enduring friendship and cooperation. Best wishes for your continued success,” he said.

Meanwhile the presidents of Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Iraq and Serbia, as well as Hungary’s prime minister, also congratulated Aliyev on his success.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a phone call to President Ilham Aliyev congratulated him on his confident victory in the presidential election, and wished him success in future.

During the telephone conversation, the two leaders expressed their confidence in friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries. They also exchanged views on the prospects for bilateral relationship and future contacts.

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ersin Tatar also made a phone call and congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on his victory in the presidential election.

Secretary General of Organization for Democracy and Economic Developmen (GUAM) Altai Efendiev has stated the Azerbaijani presidential election was held in accordance with national legislation.

“The presidential election in Azerbaijan was held following national legislation and the regulations set by the Central Election Commission (CEC), adhering to democratic election principles and standards,” he said.
