Azerbaijan’s Maritime Cargo Transport Soars in 2023, Reflecting Economic Growth

BAKU: In 2023, Azerbaijan experienced significant growth in its maritime cargo transport sector, as reported by Azernews. The country successfully transported a total of 2,602,380 tonnes of cargo valued at $1,924,683,000 via sea routes. This marked an impressive increase of 49.6% compared to the previous year and a substantial 2.1-fold rise.

The breakdown of maritime cargo activities for the year revealed noteworthy figures. The volume of cargo exports reached 78,913 tonnes, representing a substantial 48% growth compared to the previous year. The corresponding value of exported cargo amounted to $182,486,000, reflecting a remarkable 2.6-fold increase. On the import side, Azerbaijan handled 2,523,467 tonnes of cargo, marking a significant 2.1-fold surge, with the total value of imported cargo standing at $1,742,215,000, indicating a substantial 43% increase.

These impressive statistics underscore Azerbaijan’s growing prominence in maritime trade and its ability to efficiently handle substantial cargo volumes. The significant surge in both export and import figures reflects the country’s robust economic activities and highlights its position as a key player in regional and international trade.
