CENTURION, South Africa: Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam reached another significant milestone in his illustrious career by completing 4,000 runs in Test cricket. The achievement came on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at the Centurion.
Babar, who required just three runs to cross the 4,000-run mark in Test cricket, achieved the feat in style by flicking a low full delivery from Corbin Bosch past square leg for a boundary.
The shot brought up the milestone, making him the 12th Pakistani batter to achieve this landmark in the longest format of the game.
This achievement adds to Babar’s impressive record across formats. He is now part of an exclusive group of cricketers with over 4,000 runs in Test cricket, 5,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 2,000 runs in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Remarkably, Babar is only the third player in history to achieve these numbers across all three formats.
Despite the milestone, Babar’s stay at the crease was short-lived, as he was dismissed for just 4 runs off 11 balls. South Africa’s Dane Paterson claimed his wicket, with Aiden Markram taking the catch.
Earlier in the day, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first, hoping to exploit the overcast conditions. Pakistan’s batting line-up faced a stern challenge against the Proteas’ pace attack.
