RIYADH: Bahrain has made the decision to recall its ambassador from Israel and suspend economic relations with Tel Aviv, a significant development in the ongoing dynamics in the Middle East.

A statement posted on the official website of the Bahraini parliament confirmed that the Israeli ambassador has left Bahrain, marking a change in the diplomatic landscape. In response, Bahrain has chosen to recall its own ambassador from Israel and has taken the step of suspending all economic relations with the nation.

This move is grounded in Bahrain’s unwavering and historical support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. The kingdom’s decision underscores its commitment to these principles.

Notably, in September 2020, Bahrain, along with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), signed the Abraham Accord with Israel in the United States under the auspices of then-President Donald Trump. The primary objective of this historic agreement was to normalize diplomatic relations between the two Arab nations and Israel. Subsequently, Sudan and Morocco also joined the accord.

These US-brokered agreements were instrumental in gaining broader recognition of Israel within the Arab world, leading to trade deals and military cooperation between Bahrain, the UAE, and Israel in 2020. This move by Bahrain to recall its ambassador and suspend economic ties is a notable development and signals a shift in its approach to the diplomatic landscape in the region.
